This photograph of the Grateful Dead was taken at Winterland arena in San Francisco. Being a former ice skating rink, Winterland had wrap-around balconies. Shooting from the balcony behind the stage was often a great way to get a unique angle. The first row of that balcony hung right over the rear of the stage, so I was very close to the action.
